I will start with a warning for this movie, get all your snacks and drinks and to the restroom BEFORE the film starts because you won’t be able to take your eyes off Ms Viola Davis.
As The Woman King she is electrifying, her beauty and strength GLOW here. The story of her tribe, warriors and her command are riveting. And another warning, you will cry, with happiness because of the joyfulness and beauty of this well made film. Music, costumes and the landscape shown and Ms Davis’ performance will hold you spellbound.
The story is of her tribe defeating their enemy while battling the slave trade coming to their lands while forces come into their land capturing salves. As for Davis’ tribe there are fierce battles as well as relations as they establish their place in this must see film.
Awards should be coming for these performers, they all shine as they bring sorrow and joy for us to observe in a critical part of African life.
