Filled with spectacular and numbing special effects which we have seen over and over again, along with the same martial arts effects, what is planned to be exciting has become dull and bland.
With a Freaky Friday theme the three stars all who play some form of Captain Marvel are Brie Lawson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani Ms Marvel and Teyonah Paris as Captain Monica Rambeau playing the characters. With the help of a sparkling wormhole the three move into different locations and at times they end up together battling the evil Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) who has a plan to suck air from planets and secure the Icon.
The film begins with a well made exploring scene in which half of a wrist Icon is discovered, that leads to the interaction and chase through out the script for the second Icon. That may all be well and good, but not interesting. Effects need to enhance not be the star of a film, here they dominate far too much.
What does work is the interaction with the family of Ms Marvel (Iran Vellani) they are frantic at times but add some human interest to the story. At the same time the cats steal the show with a unique style of birth and a spectacular power.
The Marvels has all the splash, color, noise, battles, and everything we have seen before, but it’s time to close up the Marvel world and bring new adventures to the screen.
