Teen Titans Go! To the Movies

An unexpected mid-summer surprise is this animated television show transferred to the silver screen from the same network that produced Powerpuff Girls from the DC Comics perspective.

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies has a bright, colorful way about it in its meta-humor (with vocalizing) about superheroes that will appeal mostly to youngsters with its zippy dialogue and action. Though the topical, superhero stuff will cater to their older counterparts, even an amusing Stan Lee cameo. In addition to listening to Nicolas Cage and Jimmy Kimmel whose characters had their own gloomy live-action foray preceding Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The titular rag-tag unit includes a notable sidekick in Robin (Scott Menville) in charge of chums Beast Boy (Greg Cipes), Cyborg (Khary Payton), Raven (Tara Strong) and Starfire (Hynden Walch). When not invited to the new Batman movie premiere the Titans want their own chance in the medium with much impetus from a disgruntled Robin.

Yet, are they entitled to have the opportunity like the more seasoned The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Superman, for example. After some humiliation, a palliated Robin is told of the necessity of the arch-enemy. Ironically, the dastardly Slade (Will Arnett of The Lego Batman Movie) has passed into the Star Labs facility while the ‘bigwigs’ are occupied at the theater.

Other superheroes like Aquaman from the DCU are on view to be a part of the drollery when Teens attempt to prevent an extraordinary league from becoming who they are. The imagery is rendered in chameleonic ways that still is rather watchable and little nuggets from the source should appease its aficionados. Each member gets their specific mix-tape intro song so they’re not forgotten and at the conclusion of this kid-friendly and witty rendition of Deadpool you’ll agree that they were worthy of their own movie.
