Skyscraper

Dwayne Johnson spends a couple of hours climbing to the top of the highest building in the World as it burns below him.  Sounds familiar:  The Towering Inferno and Die Hard are photo copied for this action film as a man climbs a burning building to save his family.  But even when we have seen much of this before, it is a fun action film as long as we don’t look too closely.

Johnson who plays Will Sawyer, has a prosthesis below the knee on one leg from wounds received in battle defending the good old USA.  He is a hero and understands how to protect a large building like the one that is about to open in Hong Kong.  A friend recommends him for the security position and he and his wife and two kids move in one of the high in the sky apartments which turns out to be above the fire line that develops.

The script ranges a little far when we learn there are bad guys attempting to destroy the new building to secure a secret amulet that is hidden somewhere in the new building.  Hannah Quinlivan is Xia a truly bad girl who leads the assault force on the building.  She is quite effective with hair over one of her eyes, a slender athletic look and a ruthless attitude toward anyone who gets in her way. She is fun to watch as she cavorts around the state of the art project.

Neve Campbell is not passive wife and McKenna Roberts as the daughter, grabs at our hearts as she is captured by the evil doers.  It is easy to understand her dad’s commitment to get her along with her mother and brother out the the burning tower.

But all in all this is a Dwayne Johnson film, he pulls off a series of stunts as he climbs a service tower to get above the fire line even ducking automatic fire as the gang lead by Xia are as determined to kill him as he is to save his family. He also could be doing a commercial for duck tape through out the film.

The action is interesting and exciting and after all this is a summer no brainier film, so relax and enjoy.
