Jennifer Lopez plays Maya, a 40 year old woman with a lot of know-how, but little formal education.
She works in a large Queens store and loses out on a promotion to an annoying guy. While complaining about the loss later that night to co-worker and best friend (Leah Remini), her godson overhears and decides to help her out in the job hunting department.
He pads her resume and faked a Facebook page that makes Maya look like Superwoman. She soon gets an interview with a cosmetics bigwig (Treat Williams).
Maya marches into the meeting with moxie and 4” heels and impresses him enough to be hired as a consultant.
Written by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zachman, who rely on having a young boy swear in order to get a few cheap laughs.
Vanessa Hudgens is good as Maya’s rival at the job and Williams has a change of pace role as a corporate boss with a heart.
Directed by Peter Segal, this comedy with a dose of drama, could have been an updated take on Working Girl, but even with the talents of Ms Lopez, it falls short.
