Roxy Carmichael never appears but she dominates the lives of the characters in her namesake film. Roxy moved from her home town as a young woman, leaving a lover, jealous girl friends and a new baby. As a benefit testimonial for Roxy approaches a teen age girl, played by Winona Ryder, believes Roxy to be her natural mother and rebels from her adopted parents. Jeff Daniels disrupts his marriage as he recalls his affair with Roxy and the girl friends work to improve their appearance for the benefit evening.

This film has no special effects and no stunt, men it rises and falls on the performance of the actors and a script that imparts a short story feeling. Roxy is a nice film; it follows the emotional ride of the characters to the climax and leaves a satisfied, comfortable, message with the audience.
