Standup comedian Kevin Hart is a funny guy and his big personality drives this action/comedy directed by Tim Story.
Hart plays Ben, a high school security guard in Atlanta.   He wants to enroll in the Police Academy and at the same time get the approval of his girlfriend's brother, James, a hard-nosed detective played by Ice Cube.
James doesn't think much of his prospective brother-in-law and offers him the chance of a ride-along to discourage him.   He sets up a day filled with citizen's complaints to keep Ben occupied while he keeps an eye out for an elusive criminal named "Omar."
Ben's nonstop chatter makes it hard to figure out if he's overwhelmed by his experiences or coping with it all, as he has the same excitable voice for both occasions.   James also seems to have one emotion.   He has a continual scowl and yells most of the time.   The two make a good pair.
There's a gun fight, a car chase and a lot of physical fights.   Hart's character gets thrown around a lot, and even after he's pretty banged up, the spunky guy refuses to give up.
The storyline is pretty weak, but the action and funny interaction of this odd couple, makes it worth the price of admission.
