Director Timur Bekmambetov takes a different tact in presenting Profile, the entire production takes place on an internet service in which a young woman travels through the process of seduction by a Jihadist.
Valene Kane is a journalist Amy Whittaker who creates a persona online of a woman who has recently converted to Islam. She presents herself as ready to join ISIS by contacting Bilel (Shazad Latif). Her purpose is to develop a story about women seduced by men like Bilel who later are forced into action for ISIS or be killed.
Strange as it may seem Amy begins to fall for the con man and the drama of the seduction and danger is played out completely on PC screens. Director Bekmambetov uses this unique and creative device to bring images and emotion to the screen. He is quite effective moving his heroine through danger and sometime quick thinking even when she begins to care for Bekmambetov who is a fraud.
The process is interesting, however why would we go to a theatre to see a small screen on the big screen, it doesn’t play well enough.
