Marry Me

Well, I was so looking forward to something to distract me from everyday life.  Marry Me with Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson almost delivers with a little reality show, a little music concert, a little romantic comedy and some adorable moments to make you go aahhhh!

This turned out to be a commentary on the power of social media when the main characters Kat and Bastian are living their lives on the world wide web, broadcasting their day to day and their relationship for all to see.  Unfortunately, this means for everyone to see the good and the bad.  So, when Kat finds out about some cheating on the exact DAY of the wedding – I mean the literal exact day and time – she is on the stage, in the dress, waiting to start the vows! Everyone in the crowd is looking at their phones and murmuring . . . you can figure out the rest.  Now, do you go ahead or change the scenario on the spot? Kat, in a fog, quickly picks some guy in the crowd holding a sign that says Marry Me!

This would never happen in real-life, but we enjoy seeing Charlie, played by Owen Wilson, one actor I love because he is moving through his carrier aging gracefully.  He is there at the concert with his daughter, fulfilling his obligation as a friend and father.  He is roped into the wedding and accepts the challenge good naturally.  During this endeavor, they discover things about each other they didn’t know and learn that you feel more when you get to know someone and what they are going through.

Jennifer Lopez is wonderful as Kat and shows that she is not afraid to age beautifully and gracefully in the spotlight as well.  She includes and interacts with the children in this movie wonderfully.  Charlie’s daughter, Lou played by Chole Coleman, is having some problems with the spotlight and takes some queues from her on how to be in front of the crowd.
