Toni Collette who has been in some quality films over time (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine) is the star in Mafia Mamma which fails as a comedy and just stands still with everyone acting silly.
Monica Bellucci who at 59 remains one of the most beautiful women in the world and reached all emotional levels in Malena who survived as best she could around World War II, basically shows off her prosthetic new leg, which has a place in the plot.
Collette plays the part of a grand daughter to an Italian mafia leader who has passed on. She heads to Italy for the funeral and hopefully some romantic days and nights in her families home country. But finds that she has inherited the grandfathers gang leadership.
The heart of the very weak script by: J Michael Feldman and Debbie Jhoon evolves round her achieving leadership in grandpa’s gang without knowing what is actually happening.
The comedy is not unique in any way and most of it evolves around her family spitting at the mention of the other gang who challenges her group.
Mafia Mamma is a poor attempt at comedy and certainly has to drama to fall back on. It’s a poor attempt at something but I’m not sure what.
