Romance films can usually get to us at some point or another, but Love Again using Celine Dion as a catalyst isn’t enough to save a drag out plot which we have seen numerous times before.
With a beginning like Forever Young and lines that come from a classic western song ‘Home on the Range,’ Celine Dion acts as a councilor advising and listening to Sam Heughan who is attempting to forget a romance that was broken up six weeks before a wedding date. Priyanka Chopra Jonas on the other hand can’t get over the death of her intended.
With the usual selection of sidekicks pouring advice on the two who we know will eventually get together, the script uses the gimmick, that he has been given the phone number which her former lover had before he was killed. Some of that banter which is shared on the misdirected phone is effective, but it lags on far too long.
It appears director James Strouse just could not make the cuts that would have given us the emotion and resolution in a more timely manner to what it’s obvious, which is the happy resolution coming at the end.
