Lightyear if perfect fit based on the opening explanation that Andy (the boy who owns Lightyear and Woody) was impressed by the film Lightyear after seeing it at the movies.
Even with some slow spots it fits as a kids first exercise viewing a Science Fiction film adventure that stuck in his mind and peaked his interest. For me it was Invaders From Mars (1953) a film with some flaws but it impressed me as a thirteen year old.
Buzz travels 4.2 million light-years and changes lives because of the effect high speed space travel has on time. Eventually he must face Zurg with the help of a computerized cat to save the civilization he is tied to, that produces some exciting adventures and impressive CGI on the screen.
