Director/producer Laura Poitras makes a very astute, memorable film filled with grit and detail but compassionately doled out.
All The Beauty and Bloodshed is consistently bracing from an emotional and sociology perspective in bringing clarity into the life of celebrate artist Nan Goldin who was affected deeply by the opioid crisis having been in foster care in Boston.
The fascinating structure lets us in the orbit of the HIV/AIDS epidemic while raising awareness against a ruthless clan who made a fortune in Purdue Pharmacy and would ultimately be responsible for a half-million deaths. Poitras does a tremendous job in symbiosis with her subject to make her existence, work and survival resonate on my levels.
