Projections - Movie Reviews

Trekkies are different people.  They are the only fans listed by name in the Oxford English Dictionary. Trekkies will love this production; for others it is an interesting presentation of the phenomenon which has been created from the Star Trek series.

Denise Crosby (Lt. Tasha Yar) interviews Trekkies and stars from the series as she narrates a documentary film about the Trekkie phenomenon.  Director Roger Nygard and Crosby put together information about and events in the lives of Trekkies in a dignified and respectful manner.

Some Trekkies may appear eccentric, but each firmly believes in the philosophy that the future will be better than the past.  There's Joyce Mason, the on-air host of the Talk Trek and Beyond radio show on CRN with 2.5 million listeners, a nationwide call-in show on Sunday nights from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  David and Laurel Greenstein, of Woodland Hills, California share the love of Star Trek.  David wears his Starfleet uniform on a regular basis and has a house full of Star Trek memorabilia.  He even considered plastic surgery to give his ears Vulcan shaped points.

Barbara Adams dressed in her Star Trek uniform on the Whitewater Jury, because that is what she wears.  Dr. Denis Bourguignon was visited at Starbase Dental.  He and his staff all wear Star Trek uniforms as they work on patient's teeth.   The film's producers even went to Riverside, Iowa the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk.

From 35 hours of footage, Director/Editor Nygard developed an interesting engaging series of stories about ordinary people who believe in the extraordinary.  To sweeten the production, interviews with the stars of the series are placed between the Trekkies stories.
