Chris Rock directs Top Five with the same manic excitement of his now legendary stand-up comedy routines. Rock also wrote the script and portrays his 'alter ego,' Andre Allen with sensitivity and passion.
His character is a recovering alcoholic struggling with fame, fortune, and the desire to be taken seriously as both an actor and comedian.
Andre begins to question everything, including his wedding to gold digger girlfriend Erica Long (Gabrielle Union)
Enter reporter Chelsea Brown, (Rosario Dawson) who somehow manages to persuade Andre to confide in her and slowly open his eyes to reality. He starts believing in himself once again.
Although the ending is somewhat predictable, Rock takes his audience on an entertaining journey into the illusion of being famous, and its consequences.
