Will Ferrell brings his silliness to his new comedy as a NASCAR driver, Ricky Bobby.
He's part of a pit crew with best friend Cal (John C. Reilly). He jumps into the drivers' seat one day when the regular driver decides to take a break instead of coming in last as he usually does.
Surprisingly, Ricky wins and he continues winning until he's racked up all of the fluff that comes with wealth and fame. He marries a big-haired blond cutie, buys a big mansion and has a big ego to go with it all.
All of it comes to an end when Ricky has an accident that leaves him afraid to step behind the wheel. So his boss brings in a new Formula One driver named Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen - TV's Ali G.), a gay, flamboyant Frenchman, who publicly berates and challenges Ricky to return to the raceway so he can beat him on the track.
Talledega Nights makes fun of NASCAR fans and everything they hold dear. It has its funny part, but some of them go on forever, especially when Ricky says grace at the dinner table while his family tries to edit out or add to his endless offerings to say to "Baby Jesus."
Gary Cole has a funny role as Ricky's drunkard father, and Academy Award winner John C. Reilly is also solid as his best friend.
Fans of Ferrell will enjoy watching a character that he has perfected over many films, whether he's being ridiculously immature, or it's his pompous rantings or his running around the track in his underwear, this guy will try anything for laughs!
One thing to remember is to stay for closing credits as there are some pretty good bloopers.
