Supernova Supernova

Supernova has a strong cast consisting of Angela Bassett, James Spader, Robert Forster, Peter Facinelli, Robin Turner and Wilson Cruz.  With the skills of the Oscar nominated Bassett and Forster, there was the possibility of a very good movie.  The script is a whole other problem.

The script delivers an almost impossible to follow series of events and characters you are introduced to that, it seems, you should already know.  Combine this with alien technology that is never explained, science issues that are more complicated than the math used to figure the national debt and modest special effects and you get Supernova.  There is more than enough time to have developed the characters and the plot, but with the disjointed flow of the movie, one is left to wonder if too much was left on the cutting room floor to obtain a PG-13 rating.

The only interesting "person" in the movie is the ship's computer.  The "personality" of this machine is developing, could have been the equivalent of HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey if given screen time and could have saved this film.

The only reason I can think of to see this film is if you are trapped at the mall in a snow storm or, like myself, have to see anything in the sci-fi venue in the hope of finding greatness.  In short, save your money.
