Stuart Little 2

Stuart Little 2

In the second of the big summer sequels, Stuart Little 2 comes squealing, buzzing and soaring to the big screen.  Picking up basically where the original left off, we see the Little family complete with mouse son and talking cat living in a perfect little house in their perfect little world.

This is a very straight forward story of family, friendship and honesty that any child will love to see.  Geena Davis returns as Mom Little, Hugh Laurie as Dad Little and Jonathan Lipnicki as the other son George Little.  Doing voices are Michael J. Fox as Stuart, Nathan Lane as the always scared cat Snowball, Melanie Griffith as Margo the bird and James Woods as the evil Falcon.

The story runs 76 minutes and revolves around Stuart feeling a bit left out as his brother would rather play with friends his own age and size.  While feeling alone, Stuart "saves" a small bird named Margo from the clutches and claws of the evil Falcon.  This heart felt moment is fleeting as Margo is only trying to steal the valuables from the Little home.

Soon it becomes obvious that Margo is a pawn and Stuart sets out to save her.  The conflict that follows may be a bit intense for real small children but it is not horribly scary.

The special effects of creating Stuart are great but Margo still looks a bit plastic.  Falcon on the other hand is great.  The only real problems from an adult perspective are as follows: the Littles are just so perfect it can make you sick and I wonder if I am the only one who wonders why the rest of the world does not find a talking four inch mouse as a child a bit weird and unsettling.

Other bright spots include a smart script with Snowball the cat getting almost all of the best lines and the camera views of the city are spectacular.

Bring the family and enjoy what is likely the best family film of the season.

As always, keep the popcorn warm, soda cold and look for me in the back row, three seats in.
