Blake Edward brings back the Pink Panther series with Roberto Benigni playing Jacques, son of Inspector Clouseau. Herbert Lom again stars as the long-suffering Commissioner Dreyfus. Dreyfus asks for local help to find the Princess Yasmin of Lugas (Debrah Farentino). The locals laughingly assign young Jacques to help. Dreyfus eventually finds he is working with the son of his greatest challenge. Claudia Cardinale plays Jacques mother.
When Benigni plays the Clouseau role as Peter Sellars did, the film is very funny and the audience reacts as it did for the original Panther films. This version however, has a number of subplots which are never clearly defined or resolved. Ir also spends far more time than necessary setting up situations. The Clouseau character is best just walking through a mine field of dangers, slipping past and leaving the results to be played out against the bad guys or Commissioner Dreyfus.
There are some good laughs, but not enough.
