Skyfall, the 23rd in the series begins with a bang – and ends with a whimper.
The first 20 minutes are nonstop thrills, slowly devolving into a second-rate action movie. Bond is on a mission to recover a disc with the names of MI6 deep cover agents hacked by cyberterrorist, and former 00 agent (Javier Bardem). The film can't decide whether it wants to be new Bond, or classic Bond. Incorporating the original Astin Martin, Walther PPK's and shaken not stirred martinis lends no real extra excitement. Daniel Craig is a great actor… It's a shame he wasn't given some better material to work with here. Bardem was the epitome of evil in "No Country For Old Men. His "Bad Guy" in Skyfall is a lightweight in comparison. The second half took too long to resolve itself and the ending is a bummer. OK film but forgettable.
