Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins starred in the original 1980 Blue Lagoon. The film brought attention to the two youngsters and made about $100 million. Hoping for a similar boost to their fledgling careers Brian Krause and top-model Milla Jovovich star as the marooned teens, Richard and Lilli.
As a baby, Richard is found in a small boat with the bodies of his dead parents (the two characters from the original film) by a ship traveling from Tahiti to San Francisco. Aboard the ship, Richard is given to a young widow, Sarah (Lisa Pelikan), mother of a baby girl, to raise. When a cholera epidemic breaks out on the ship, the captain sets the widow and two babies adrift in a small boat to save their lives.
The land on a tropical island where the children are educated and taught manners by Sarah, for the day when they will be rescued and brought to "civilization." After Sarah dies, the children develop into self-sufficient teens.
The film is set in Fiji, where the ocean waterfall and greenery make a lush paradise.
A large portion of the second half of the film is devoted to furtive peeks at each other's bodies and trying to deal with their burgeoning curiosity about one another. It all handles innocently enough, but is it really interesting to anyone?
