Martin Lawrence stars as Roy McCormick, a college coach from a top ranked basketball team, in this kid-friendly comedy.
He's banned from coaching for bad behavior, that is when he actually shows up for a game. He's usually off being interviewed somewhere and has even audio taped his pre-game pep speech to his team, so he can show up at a car dealer opening.
Roy finds out that his new team is made up of a mixture of nerds and cutups, who don't know the meaning of drills and haven't scored a point in many seasons. The kids' court antics are punctuated in a running commentary by a couple of girls writing for the school newspaper.
Of course, the uninterested Roy begins to care for the kids and they in turn start to play better under the tutelage of this one-time school star, which is hard to believe because Roy is shorter than some of his Junior High team members.
Lawrence seems miscast here and he doesn't give the role his all, however, the kids are funny. Talented youngsters who aren't exactly top athletes themselves, might find a smile or two in this benign comedy.
