The scrip for The Puppet Masters looks a lot like The Body Snatchers. Some of the action is tense and a little frightening but the climax is disappointing and the final scene is a silly fight on a helicopter.

The story is taken from the pulp magazine "Galaxy Science Fiction." Author Robert A. Heinlen published this type of story from 1939 into the 1950s.

It all starts in Iowa and threatens to spread across the entire nation. Flat slimy creatures jump from their pods onto the back of unsuspecting humans and bore through the spinal column into the brain. The humans then become agents for the central core brain which must be discovered and destroyed to save the world.

Andrew Nivens (Donald Sutherland), his son Sam (Eric Thal) and NASA scientist Mary Sefton (Julie Warner) are the team who make the discovery and lead the change against the alien possession.

It's all been around before. Some of the scenes and sets are interesting but overall it's disappointing.
