This is a glorious performance by the New York City Ballet Company with Macaulay Culkin in a modest role.
In some ways it is better than a live performance. The cameras are held at about the sixth row, about seven feet above the stage level providing a unique view of the players and dance. Tschaikovsky's music fills the theater and the performances are world class. The work of Darci Kistler as The Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier (Damian Woetzel) along with Wendy Whelan as Coffee in the Arabian Dance and Gen Horiuchi as Tea in the Chinese Dance are magnificent. As their dances end it is difficult to hold back from applauding.
Treat yourself and your kids to this brilliant Christmas show. It is far less expensive than a theater production and the large screen, with great sound, fives a spectacular view of this classic favorite.
