It's a good thing Eddie Murphy has his work in Dreamgirls to fall back on after making this loser of a comedy.

It's not that his acting is so bad, but it's difficult for him to rise above the repetitive, unfunny script. As he did in The Nutty Professor as the Klumps, Murphy again plays multiple male and female roles.

As Norbit, he's a meek, put-upon nerd who marries heavy, loud mouth Rasputia, played by Murphy with so much padding and makeup he's unrecognizable. He also is Mr. Wong, the head of an orphanage where Norbit grew up.

The one redeeming quality of this film is its terrific makeup, due to the magic of Rick Baker. It's difficult to see where Eddie ends and Rasputia begins. However, most of the gags are at her expense and unfortunately, we've seen all of them before.

Kids might be drawn to these funny-looking characters, but the often raunchy language and sexually explicit gags makes Norbit not for kids.

Thandie Newton and Marlon Wayans co-star but can't save Norbit.
