Mystery Men

Mystery Men, based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, has an all star cast of huge proportions.  The true mystery is why didn't they burn it rather than release it.  For certain there would have been more energy expended from the burn than from laughter from the audiences.

All of the characters are one dimensional and the dialog was like reading a comic...in fact I was so bored that I was hoping to see word filled balloons of the dialog appear over the actors rather than be forced to hear it.  With Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, Paul Reubins (a.k.a. Pee Wee Herman), Janeane Garofalo and more cast as wannabe super hero's, one would expect great comic timing, great delivery and a watchable movie.  You'll have a better chance of Ed McMahon arriving on your door step with a check than that.

After Inspector Gadget and Spawn it has become very obvious that comics and cartoons do not always make a good transition to the screen.  What was lacking in those, as well as Mystery Men, was a good script.  I guess the only mystery remaining is who will be dumb enough to shell out $$$$ to see this film.
