A Italy's beautiful Lake Como and tells a warm and amusing tale of late-in-life romance.
Redgrave is Miss Bennett, a zealous, playful photographer, gleefully exploring the people and places of the region she has made her hone away from hone for decades never married, she made the annual treks to Italy with her father, recently deceased. On her very first trip back without him she meets the Major (Edward Fox), a Brit, whom she immediately warms up to because of his "kind ears". The two form a friendship which is marked by continuous sparring, competitiveness and mutual misunderstandings. Add in to the confusion is the presence of Miss Beaumont (Uma Thurman), a pretty young American nanny, whom the Major mistakenly considers within his grasp.
This film is such a treat! The performances of Redgrave and Fox are endearing and real. You'll like Miss Bennett from the start, and by movie's end, each member of the trio will have found a place in your heart. Don't miss this tender work by John Irving.
