Dr. Jarrett (Lance Henriksen - the Android in Aliens) has created a system to cross animal DNA and create a super guard dog he calls Max. Lori Tanner (Ally Sheedy) plays a reporter who, while investigating Dr. Jarrett's lab, frees Max only to learn very soon he has the potential to be Mad Max.

With a rather violent script, this film is not for little kids but older kids will enjoy the somewhat masked violence and the rather clever comedy which is laced in the film. When a pet parrot insults Max, he attacks and the scene ends with green feathers all over the room. When Max is attracted to a female collie, Paul Anka's "Puppy Love" fills the soundtrack.

If this is your kind of film, it's a good one.
