Madeline

Little fans of Madeline will be thrilled by the live actors playing the roles developed by Ludwig Bemelmans in the 1939 book.  Frances McDorrnand (Fargo) as Miss Clavel has the warmth and strict edge of a nun in charge.  Nigel Hawthorne is the stilted, mourning owner of the school and Hatty Jones is the irrepressible, enchanting young Madeline.

After the death of their patron, the future of the school is in jeopardy when Lord Covington (Hawthorne) decides to sell the old school house.  Madeline, the other 11 girls, and the devilish son of the Spanish ambassador who moves in next dorr, make it difficult to sell the house and eventually get the old man to save the school.

The film has the heart of a child at its center.  Kids will love it.
