This retelling of the classic Little Women has been "modernized" a bit. It still has the same basic story, a family of sisters that go through the trials of life and each other. It still has the tragedy of losing someone you love dearly and the discovery of the person you truly are.

This version has a little edge to it now in 2018. The sister, Jo, has a little bit of a manic quality, she is obsessed with her writing and stories almost to the point of alienating her family. Meg, the older sister, has a meeker quality about her, but still lovely and sweet. The sick sister, Beth, and Amy are still the same and well-acted. The story still affects you and makes you think about your own family and the things you go through.

Leah Thompson is still great to watch as the mother figure, Marmee, she seems to pick roles that highlight her wonderful smile. Sarah Davenport as Jo and Lucas Grabeel as Laurie are the core of the movie and deliver solid performances. The movie was enjoyable enough, and the end justified the slower beginning and middle. There are several scenes of joy that make you smile. It had a little Hallmark Channel vibe, with messages of family and love mixed into the trials and tribulations. I still think for these retellings of well-loved books, it is always worth reading it again to make sure you don't lose any of the magic.
