Lin Shaye who plays Elise Rainier carries a light which looks like Diogenes' Lantern as she searches for the entity in the cellar, provides the only frightening scene in the film.  Oh there are some attempts by director, Leigh Whannell to provide startling moments, but they are all based on loud noise and not situations which stand the hair on the back of our neck.

Shaye is the medium who searches for the creature that is haunting an apartment house in which Sean and Quinn Brenner (Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott) play father and daughter.  The creature for some reason which is not very clear, is after the beautiful young Quinn.  The creature it appears plans to fill the building with dark characters that prey on the living tenants in the interesting old building that is not in sound repair.

For lack of a better word, the ghost which I call wet foot, because he leaves wet foot prints throughout the building as he sneaks around attempting to disrupt the living and force them to join him in a half alive state.  What he fails to do is create a situation in which we are at least anxious it certainly is not fearful.  The battle here is the attempt which must be made to stay awake during this poor copy of the every effective original Insidious.

The third copy of anything isn't usually very effective and Insidious 3 is proof of that theory.

Credit should be given to young Stefanie Scott who is the focus of the dark attack as she attempts to reach out to her mother who has passed away.  Lin Shave who appears in all three "Insidious" films is very effective as a frightened character who is not willing to give up on the needs of the young girl, even when she  is aware that the role of medium raises havoc in her life.

There are so many horror films available, only once in a great while we are blessed with a truly frightening one that forces us to look under our car as we leave the movie parking lot.  After this Insidious the most interesting discussion has to do with the quality of the popcorn.
