A comedy duo with good cop bad cop, or grumpy cop and goody-two-shoes cop has been done before but this combination if very funny and entertaining. I am glad to see actresses embracing their whole character inside & out and still managing to make you laugh!
The Heat has many things – action, a little drama, family stuff – where did they get that crazy family – I LUV Jane Curtin as the crotchety mom, her part was far too short. The comedy is the thing that makes this movie good and the matching of Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy is genius! I love movies with Sandra Bullock and here she works well with Melanie. Their characters are believable and you quickly like this paring and cheer for them all the way! They find their groove right away and you find yourself enjoying the ride.
When McCathy's character Mullins finds her brother is mixed up with the bad element, she doesn't want help at the beginning but finds that working with Bullock's character Ashburn, an uptight office agent, will quickly get the result she wants and we have a following them through their exploits.
There is drinking and swearing but overall the story is fun to watch. Melissa McCarthy is a good comedic actress with an expression-filled face and you enjoy watching her all through this movie. All the action leaves it wide open for the sequel – did someone say Heat 2?
This is a fun movie for the summer if you enjoy buddy films, well worth the price of a popcorn & soda!
