If there is theme to Friend Request it's "no good deed goes unpunished.
Alycia Debnam-Carey plays Laura a popular young woman on campus who has many friends on face book. All is well until she decides to accept a Friend Request from Marina (Liesl Ahlers) a dark character on campus who wears a hooded sweatshirt and sits alone for lunch. Marina quickly has an attraction to Laura a very nice young lady, Laura cauciously agrees to be friends. From there all good things begin to fall. Somewhat like the Final Destination films, Laura's friends begin to bite the dust in weird ways as they see illusions that have something to do with Marina's face book site.
What is happening and who controls pictures on the walls, rooms full of PCs and has the capability of freezing controls all over the place is never quite revealed. It's easy to suspect some grand plan is a work, but as the clues are exposed rather than making us more and more anxious to see the next turn, we can't wait for the film to end.
With no solid basis ,either wicked, spiritual or just plane envy the plot moves from scene and event with little build up of evidence. If the police are confused, we are lost, this Friend Request is one that for many reasons should be rejected.
