Why The Fog needed a remake is unclear, but director Rupert Wainwright fails to catch on to the original 1980 version which at least had some frightening moments. Here he appears to be fascinated with special effects and nothing else.

The use of disfigured victims on the ghost sailing ship which floats up in the fog (they have a biblical disease) adds nothing to the bland scenes in which folks go up in flames, are speared and ground up as the fog rolls over the coastal town.

The reason for the revenge of the boat people slips out near the end, but it is not as specific as in the first film and lacks the impact.

Don't get lost in The Fog.
