This animated film is based on a 1936 book. Directed by Carlis Saldanha, Ferdinand the bull has a mind of his own.
As a young bull, Ferdinand (John Cena) has decided that the life offered at his ranch of matadors and violent fighting in the bull ring is not for him.
He'd rather smell flowers and have peace and quiet. To that end, he runs away to his friend Nina (Lily Day) and her dad's farm. He's taken in as one of their family and he loves running in the meadow amongst the flowers. It's just what Ferdinand had longed for.
He grows into a big strong and happy bull, but something happens that results in him having to return to the ranch.
At the ranch, he doesn't fit in. He's called names and urged to be like the other bulls.
There are a lot of cute characters and some funny scenes, Kate McKinnon voices Lupe the goat and she's given some silly lines.
The film should be a hit with the kids and the message that it's ok to be yourself is a bonus.
