A dog who longs to be a real boy is the subject of Disney's new animated film.

Talented Nathan Lane gives voice to Soot, a talking dog, who puts on clothes, tucks his ears under a beanie and longs to be a real boy, just like Pinocchio.

Along comes a mad scientist voiced by Kelsy Grammar who offers Spot the chance to become human with a zap from his new and unpredictable invention. And although Soot jumps at the chance, it wouldn't be funny if everything ran smoothly!

Lane's voice is so full of energy and over-the-top enthusiasm, he captures the attention of his audience with ease, while Grammar gives just the right scary tinge to his character.

Based on the award-winning T.V. show, the hand-drawn characters are silly, wise-cracking and fun to watch. When most animation today is computer-generated, the drawings here are bright, colorful and well done; they appear to pop off the screen. The music score also enhances the story and characters.

The story might not intrigue the little ones, but the lively music and Lane's great performance will keep them interested.
