Director Renny Harlin has produced a film filled with brilliant action, acrobatics and special effects. The script on the other hand is as weak as the action is spectacular.
Genna Davis stars as Morgan Adams, the captain of the Morning Star pirate ship. Her crew is made up of loyalists and rebellious riffraff as is typical in pirate films. Her uncle, Dawg Brown (Frank Langella), is the evil pirate captain who challenges Morgan all the way to Treasure Island. Matthew Modine is a swindler whom Morgan buys at a slave auction. With long hair and a mustache he looks like Errol Flynn.
The ships tossed at sea in storms are beautifully presented and Davis' sward play and heroics are played against a Caribbean town which she completely destroys.
This could have been a silent film. It's like watching the Pirates of the Caribbean with giant special effects in gorgeous settings.
