The Cat in the Hat
The Cat in the Hat
Starring Mike Myers, Kelly Preston, Spencer Breslin,
Alec Baldwin, Dakota Fanning, Sean Hayes

You know those annoying relatives who comes to visit during the holidays, and never want to leave? They're loud, self-centered and seem to soak up all of the energy around them-well, that's exactly the way I felt about Mike Myers' interpretation of The Cat In The Hat.

The story more or less follows the beloved book, as the Walden children, Conrad (Spencer Breslin) and Sally (Dakota Fanning) are left with a sitter in their ultra clean home by neatnick mon Joan (Kelly Preston). Joan, a realtor, has everything prepared for an upcoming reception and all is in perfect order, until the Cat stops by.

Myers, almost unrecognizable, is covered in black and white fur, with a red bow tie and tall red and white hat. He enters like a whirling tornado, leaving chaos in his wake.

Director Bo Welch's Men In Black adaption has sets that look like giant paintings come-to-life. His vision is the one great thing about the movie, it is a glorious fantasy filled with bold bright colors and striking images.

The Cat's action is non-stop, which is okay sometimes, bu I was longing for just one charming or quiet moment without the noise, but it never came. He turns from a chef to a pinata being bashed in by a bunch of kids, the whole thing is exhausting.

Sean Hayes and Alec Baldwin co-star, but this baby belongs to Myers and he can have it.
