Over the top violence is the name of the game in Bullet to the Head - Sylvester Stallone's new film. Lots of cliché's in this one… Bits of Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables, all rolled into one.
Director Walter Hill goes back to his old 48 Hrs.(1982) formula with two reluctant partners trying to solve the same crime… Each of them on opposite sides of the law. Hit man James Bonomo (Stallone),and his cop partner Taylor Kwan (Sung Kang) banter with, and berate each other throughout.
While the death toll keeps rising. Stallone tells one unfortunate victim - "Guns don't kill people… Bullets do!! This quote captures the total mindset of Sly's character in 'Bullet.' Can we expect much more? Game of Throne's (Jason Momoa) - is truly convincing as cold - blooded killer/assassin, Keegan.
The finale includes a Rocky-esque battle with fireman's axes - Does Stallone have an axe to grind? The film's poster claims "revenge never gets old." This could also refer to Sylvester Stallone's age (66).
Bullet is not great art, but is somewhat entertaining. It's a non-thinking, predictable 90 minute film worth the price of admission… But not much more!
