Bruce Almighty

Bruce Almighty

Starring Jim Carey and Jennifer Aniston this tale follows when whiny news reporter Bruce Nolan portrayed by Carey loses his job.  Soon after, Bruce demands that God explain why he is nothing but an ant and God has his magnifying glass trained upon him.  Suddenly, Bruce is face to face with God, played superbly by Morgan Freeman, and in answer to Bruce's complaints makes Bruce the almighty one for a week to see if he can do a better job and to teach him a lesson.  The combination of Freeman as a straight man and Carey as the cutup we have come to love delivers some great laughs.

Carey delivers his usual physical humor and over the top lines, but oddly enough is quite believable as a man pushed just a bit too far by life and one who fails to see that he himself is to blame.  At times you will actually pity him but not for long as the antics of Carey will have you rolling in the aisles.  What a shame that the script was not of the same caliber as the actors and actresses in this film.

So if you are Matrixed out and X no longer marks the spot or you are simply in the mood for a good laugh, see Bruce Almighty.
