Will Ferrell bottoms out wearing his Blades of Glory following the wonderfully scripted Stranger Than Fiction. Ferrell's Chazz Michael Michaels in the hands of screen writers Jeff and Craig Cox is silly stupid and bland.
Chazz and Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder - Napoleon Dynamite) battle out the singles championship early on at Stockholm, the obnoxious bragging Chazz challenges the soft-spoken sweet nice kid Jimmy. But after the contest the two are suspended for life from participating in competitive singles skating because of fighting with each other.
Each ends up in a dead end job, Chazz as a character in a children's ice show wearing a large costume head in which he can continue to drink inside of while performing. But that doesn't last as the two get together under the direction of Craig T. Nelson's Coach who suggests they get back on track by becoming pair skaters a venue that is usually reserved for one man and one woman.
While Chazz shows why he is called the Illustrated Man, poor Scott Hamilton is forced as a sports anchor to spill out sex laced descriptions of the antics by the male/male pair skaters.
It all focuses in a Montreal World Winter Sport Games XX where the so called heroes battle for the championship with Waldenberg brother and sister (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler). The love interest for Jimmy, is sister to the Waldenbergs (Jenna Fischer) but that comes between the un-orthodox pair of skaters.
The climax is a silly over-the-top skating presentation enhanced by spectacular special effects.
Even Will Ferrell fans will have trouble finding humor in this muddled mess.
