10 Cloverfield Lane is a claustrophobic, over the top doomsday tale where nothing at all is certain.

Held in a reinforced bunker 40 feet underground designed to avoid an apocalyptic catastrophe, Howard Stambler (John Goodman) holds two unwilling people with him, insisting that he is saving their lives by letting them remain.

Goodman says they will both perish if allowed to leave. He considers them guests, yet both are treated like prisoners.

We are never sure if Goodman is telling the truth, or if he's just completely insane. This balancing act of good vs. evil keeps everyone guessing throughout.

Both reluctant believers in this tale continually plot to escape. (Michelle) Mary Elizabeth Winstead questions Goodman's motives from the very beginning. Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.) is never quite sure what his reality is since he  helped build the shelter. It's all still a mystery to him. Michelle soon convinces Emmett that they must escape, or surely die as Goodman becomes increasingly bizarre and delusional.

As a psychological study the intensity rises by being filmed in such a tight environment such as 2015's Room'The ironic ending is a total shocker since everything Michelle was led to believe becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
